“Rachel Hibshman was born on December 17, 1997, weighing in at 5 lb 6 oz, just small enough to fit in her older sister’s Christmas stocking, much to her dismay but to her father’s content. Ever since she was young, Rachel excelled in all of her classes in school, but was never quite sure what her favorite subject was. While she never considered herself creative until her late high school years, all she knew was that making things just felt right. Throughout most of her youth, she channeled her creativity into making handmade gifts for her friends and family. She soon became the person everyone hoped she had for Secret Santa. Her career as an interior designer began at 11 by making shoebox dioramas of bedrooms. And then, when she found out people design interiors for a living, her whole world was rocked. Now, she loves using her creativity in interior design projects at school (and the occasional handmade gift when she has the time). When not designing, she can be found enjoying the simple pleasures of life, like her favorite albums, on repeat (literally – on repeat), grocery shopping trips with her dad, and late night Eat n Park excursions with her best friends.
Two of my most important values in life are adventure and compassion. I love traveling and hope to visit every U.S. national park someday (3 down so far – I have a long way to go). As a recurring participant in La Roche’s spring break mission trips, I get to combine these passions. Through these trips, I have visited St Croix, Texas, and soon Puerto Rico (this March), the experiences of which have had a huge impact on the person I am today. These mission trips only inspire me more to live my life to the fullest while giving back along the way. I hope to one day be able to channel these passions into my interior design career. One day, I dream of living in a cute, little apartment filled with many different plants in Maine while working as an interior designer with my future pet corgi as my sidekick. For now, I’m just working hard and seeing where life takes me.”
