This year is a strong developmental year for students as they learn to understand and use typography and image more effectively as communication tools. Through course materials and projects, a more comprehensive study of typography and layout is presented to enable successful and effective integration of word and image. Students also begin to integrate design thinking and process into every project in every course, and even begin to define their own design problems as they explore topics and look at how design can be a tool for shaping behavior and our culture.
The coursework this year is intended to impart a deeper understanding of concept versus execution and teach advanced concept delivery through original image making and written communication. Students are also introduced to web and time-based media. Also key to this year is instruction in art and design history students can begin to explore the cultural significance of design, and understand its context and value from past to present.
