Students from both the Graphic Design program and Interior Design program are enrolled together in first year foundation courses. Through a series of applied projects, students in these courses are introduced to the principles of design, the elements of art and the creative process.
Foundation projects encourage students to begin to think critically and to develop and improve their drawing and hand skills. The relationship between concept and execution is also explored.
In the second semester, formal visual concerns such as color systems, historical style conventions, spatial systems and manipulation of form are introduced. Students also practice their skills by working in the language of drawing, including exercises in expression and communication in various media.
