The technology component of the curriculum, which began in the second year (construction and finish materials), continues with textiles, lighting, electrical systems, and control systems in the third year. All of the building technology courses present an overview of building systems that affect the responsibilities and decisions of interior designers.
The development of more complex interior spaces continues in the third year, as students are introduced to progressively larger spaces, different demographic groups and extensive programming requirements. Students’ critical thinking skills are expanded as they find innovative approaches to design issues and problems.
The third year also examines the professional aspects of interior design practice, teaching students the ethical and accepted standards of practice. Students are encouraged to seek professional development throughout their careers, to contribute to the profession, and to become advocates for creating interior spaces that enrich the lives of the people who inhabit them.
